Welcome Dr. Zapadka!
The Region 2 Office is pleased to announce that Dr. Nicholas Zapadka has been named the new principal of Freedom Hill Elementary School. His official start date will be October 18, 2019. We are also very pleased to announce that Ms. Pam Morgan will continue to serve alongside Dr. Zapadka for two weeks to ensure a smooth transition.
Dr. Zapadka has been an assistant principal in the Loudoun County Public Schools system (“LCPS”) since 2016.
Dr. Zapadka is an instructional leader who is passionate about collaborative leadership and collaborative learning. He is a champion for the “teachers’ voice” and understands how important it is for staff to be active and fully engaged in the school climate in order to ensure success for every student. Student success in Dr. Zapadka’s mind is not just based on academic achievement, he believes that it should also be focused on social and emotional wellness; engaging students in ways they want or in ways to which they can relate is a high priority and a basic tenet of his instructional leadership style. Dr. Zapadka believes in positive discipline and understands that restorative practices make the school a more welcoming environment for students. He is also an excellent communicator who believes in open and consistent communication; being visible and present is an important part of his leadership style and beliefs.
Dr. Zapadka holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Allegheny College as well as a Master of Arts Degree in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Zapadka received his Doctor of Education in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia. He also holds an endorsement in Educational Leadership and Supervision from George Washington University.
There will be an opportunity to meet the new principal at the upcoming PTA meeting on Friday, October 18, from 9:30-10:30 am in the FHES cafeteria.
