What Makes Us Special
10 Reasons Why Freedom Hill Shines Bright
Freedom Hill Elementary School will be celebrating a 75th anniversary this year! We are very proud to serve the families of the rapidly changing Tysons Corner area with a continuity of care and high expectations. Everything we enjoy in the Freedom Hill community stems from the partnerships that we share and our joint commitment to the success of our Eagles.
Many Cultures, One Community
Freedom Hill students represent more than 45 nations and 35 different languages. This rich tapestry of cultures and experiences enrich our classrooms and foster a culture of understanding, empathy, and global awareness. Our unique blend of backgrounds helps every student develop the skills they need to thrive in an interconnected world.

Celebrating Student Achievement
The 2023-24 School Year was a blast at Freedom Hill! With a schoolwide theme of Blasting into a Bright Future, our students worked hard throughout the year and ended it on a very bright note. Our reading scores increased by 2%. Our science testing scores improved by 19%. Chronic absenteeism decreased by 6%. Partnerships between families, staff, and students supported this success! You can read our 2023-24 Year-End Report to learn more, including some thoughts from FHES students, parents, and staff members.
Engaging and Rigorous Instructional Practices
We are committed to providing authentic opportunities for students to develop Portrait of a Graduate skills through a variety of instructional practices such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Blended Learning through technology, and field trips that reinforce classroom learning in authentic settings. In addition to the typical specials classes (Art, Music, Physical Education, Library), Freedom Hill students also benefit from classes in Critical and Creative Thinking (CCT), STEM, and Technology.
Special Education and Preschool Center
Freedom Hill is proud to help educate and support unique students and their families from all over our region in specialized programs and in a Pre-K program for eligible preschool students. These programs are a visible and vibrant part of our learning community. Our current specialized classrooms at Freedom Hill include 1) Enhanced Autism (Primary), 2) Enhanced Autism (Upper), 3) Intellectual Disabilities (ID), 4) Intellectual Disabilities - Severe (IDS), 5) Preschool Autism (PAC), 6) Early Childhood Class-Based (ECCB), and 7) Pre-K.
Full-Time Local Advanced Academics Program
Advanced Academic Programs at Freedom Hill provide challenging learning experiences that are designed to meet the unique learning needs of a broad range of advanced learners. Active and Committed PTA
The FHES PTA is an active and committed group of parents, teachers, and students. Our PTA organizes many wonderful events and celebrations to enhance the educational opportunities that provide each student with a chance to grow. With help from volunteers and donations, the PTA is able to sponsor events that bring our community together and strengthen connections. Some of FHES’ family favorites include the Back to School Picnic, Culture & Heritage Celebration, Hallowingo, a volunteer program for Freedom Hill dads, and Family Dinners Out at local restaurants. Get involved with our PTA.
TJHSST and FHES Buddy Program
The Buddy Program at Freedom Hill ES is a partnership with Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST). High school students partner with Freedom Hill students with intellectual disabilities each Wednesday to promote the use of their communication devices! We truly appreciate our high school buddies from TJHSST for the time and special attention they give our Eagles. Read a story about this powerful partnership.
Student Leadership Opportunities
FHES has several programs that help build students’ leadership skills. As the voice of our student body, the Freedom Hill Student Council Association offers opportunities for students to organize and host school events and service projects.
Students on the FHES Live News Team broadcast morning announcements and student-related news throughout the year.
Under the direction of adult sponsors, students who serve as patrol officers/walking and school bus patrols provide supervision for students traveling to school.
Positivity Project School
FHES participates in the Positivity Project. Over the course of the school year, students learn about and discuss 24 character strengths. Ranging from bravery and creativity to integrity and gratitude, character strengths are the foundation for genuine self-confidence grounded in self-awareness. At the same time, it helps children better understand why everyone is different and how to appreciate those differences. To promote school-wide discussions, we focus on one character strength each week, which is showcased on the Morning News Show, in classroom morning meeting discussions, and in the principal’s newsletter to all families. You can read about the 24 character strengths here!
Freedom Hill Elementary is more than a school—it's a community where young minds are nurtured, and spirits are uplifted. Together, we learn, grow, and make an impact. Join us in celebrating the magic on the Hill!
