PE CLUB with Mr. Dowling: (Grades 4-6)
Students will participate in various intramural sports (such as basketball, floor hockey, soccer, badminton, and other modified skill-themed games) and fitness-related activities with an emphasis on skill development, game strategies, team work, and sportsmanship as well as health and fitness. COMICS AND ANIMATION DRAWING with Ymm Art: (Grades 4-6)
Students will learn about the fundamental elements of comics and animation and will develop stories and characters using a step-by-step process of various styles and techniques. FLAG FOOTBALL with Overtime Athletics: (Grades 2-5)
Huddle up and get ready for Flag Football to become an instant classic. Kids are lining up to score touchdowns and get a taste of the most popular game in the country! Players will get a chance to be running backs, wide receivers, defensive ends, and corner backs. Learn to pass, catch, run routes and punt like the pros! We'll practice these skills while playing Button Hook, Down & Out, Pitch & Run, and First & Ten. Scrimmages and Red Zone Challenges will test your skills, promote teamwork and encourage sportsmanship. YOGA with NoVA Kids in Motion: (Grades K-5)
Yoga instructors use a variety of teaching methods and activities, such as poses, meditations, drawings, music, books, sing-alongs, stories, and games to develop focus, flexibility, strength, and calmness. Session after session yoga is a continual promotion of doing your personal best, without competition. Children do yoga activities individually, in pairs, and as a group. WEDO ROBOTICS with Fairfax Collegiate: (Grades K-3)
WeDo Robotics introduces young students to simple robotics systems in a fun and engaging way. Students will build LEGO models with functional motors and sensors, and learn how to control them with basic programming skills. Students will explore basic engineering concepts and build a new robot model during each class period. CHESS CLUB with Silver Knights: (Grades K-6)
Learn chess from a Silver Knights Chess coach! We teach more than 3,500 children each week. State and national champions have come from our programs, but most of our students are just looking to have fun! Class time is split between lesson and play. Lessons range from learning the rules to advanced tournament strategies, depending on the children. Play time is structured to pair each student against an opponent of similar skill. All grades and skill levels are welcome. Silver Knights will supply all the equipment during chess club. Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments. PICASSO ART with YMM Art Space: (Grades K-3)
This class aims to promote creativity and foster confidence in children through art making while exploring different art media. Students will learn different skills each week by working on new art projects. SOCCER with Soccer Shots: (Grades K-2)
This soccer skills program is for children who are new to soccer and those who want to build upon what they have learned in previous classes. Focusing on individual skill, fitness, and sportsmanship, each session provides an opportunity for kids to be challenged through fun games and team scrimmages. LEGO MINDSTORM with Mr. Misch: (Grades 4-6)
Students in Lego Mindstorms will learn how to build the basic Mindstorm robot and how to program the robot to negotiate an obstacle course. Each session will confront students with a new challenge. The culminating activity for the class will be a Battle Bot tournament. GUITAR CLUB with Fine Arts Matter: (Grades 2-6)
Join Guitar Club this year and get your hands on a real acoustic guitar! Our experienced and encouraging teachers do a great job with both beginning and advanced students. Each session includes a brand new set of awesome songs to learn as we get ready for the Big Show! But Guitar Club isn’t just cool: Learning an instrument instills self-confidence, develops attention span, improves academic achievement, and encourages social skills and teamwork.
